According to TechFlame, attorney and XRP law advocate John Deaton (John Deaton) said that the XRP Army — an online community that continued to support the cryptocurrency during the XRP downturn — played a role in Ripple's success in ending its legal dispute with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Deaton stated on X (formerly Twitter) that thousands of affidavits written by self-proclaimed XRP Army members and submitted to court were one reason for Ripple's partial victory in the dispute over whether XRP was a security. An affidavit is a written statement that can be used as evidence in court. Since 2020, Ripple and two of its executives have been sued for allegedly providing unregistered securities through the sale of XRP, and the legal dispute between the SEC and Ripple has continued for almost half a decade.
