TechFlame reports that Reuters analyst Jamie McGeever recently wrote that the rise in gold's share of central bank reserves seems unstoppable. He pointed out that concerns about inflation, deteriorating US fiscal health, disputes over the independence of the Federal Reserve, and geopolitical turmoil are triggering market questions about the stability of the “traditional safest asset in the world” — long-term US Treasury bonds. In response, central banks in many countries are turning back to gold, and gold has surpassed the euro to become the world's second-largest reserve asset after the US dollar; at the same time, the share of gold in central bank reserves also surpassed US treasury bonds for the first time since 1996.
