TechFlame reports that, according to Bloomberg, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is building on preliminary cryptocurrency accounting rules and issued a new staff guideline stating that certain stablecoins can be treated as cash. This interim guidance comes as the SEC is developing regulatory rules for crypto securities. Under SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, the Commission has begun phasing out some of the more stringent policies, including accounting guidelines previously thought to prevent traditional lenders from entering the crypto market. According to the latest guidelines, holding certain stablecoins linked to the US dollar can be classified as cash equivalents if these stablecoins have guaranteed redemption rights and the value is anchored to another type of asset.
