TechFlame reports that Paul Mackel, the global head of foreign exchange research at HSBC, said that changes in US policy, along with upcoming inflation data, may dominate the dollar's tone this week. The year-on-year increase in CPI in June is expected to be slightly higher than in May. “The US dollar is showing initial signs of reacting to the data in a more conventional way, so if the data is weak, it may become a stumbling block for the dollar.” Furthermore, announcements of possible tariffs on certain countries (i.e. Brazil, Canada, the European Union, and Mexico) and target products (such as pharmaceuticals and copper) will keep uncertainty high. Although these announcements may support the US dollar in the short term, other policy risks need to be considered, such as recent criticism of Federal Reserve Chairman Powell on the cost of refurbishing the headquarters.
