TechFlame News — According to a notice from the Public Security Bureau of Linwu County, Hunan Province, China, on August 19, 2026, during routine investigations, the Linwu County Public Security Bureau of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, uncovered leads on a fraud case and successfully busted a virtual currency investment scam, arresting two suspects in succession.
Investigation revealed that on May 1, 2026, suspect Li met the victim, Ms. Yue, through a private message on a social platform. Li falsely claimed he could teach virtual currency investment techniques that would guarantee steady profits, and induced her to download a certain app to purchase Tether (USDT), which would then be exchanged for a newly issued virtual currency manipulated by his "upper handler." Li, working with the "upper handler," artificially drove up the coin price to create the illusion of rising value, constantly persuading the victim to invest more. Once the funds were in place, they quickly dumped the coin, causing its value to plummet to zero. Ms. Yue lost approximately 30,000 yuan, while Li illegally profited tens of thousands of yuan. The illicit funds were collected on his behalf by his friend Lei and subsequently squandered.
On August 19, investigators arrested Li. On September 17, Lei, suspected of collecting illicit funds on Li's behalf, was also apprehended. Both have been criminally detained in accordance with the law. The case is currently under further investigation.
Police remind the public: Virtual currency is not legal tender, and there is no such thing as a "guaranteed profit" investment. Any recommendation via private online messages that promises high returns is a scam. Do not trust investment recommendations from strangers or transfer money to unfamiliar platforms.
