Changpeng Zhao, the Binance co-founder known as CZ, said Bitcoin will become a more important asset than gold over time.

BlockBeats and other outlets reported that Zhao made the remarks at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong on Aug. 27. "I definitely think Bitcoin will become more important than gold," he said.

Zhao called Bitcoin "a much better asset than gold." He said countries with systems in place to value and hold gold will need time to shift toward cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Even so, he said, that change will inevitably happen.

He also spoke about the need for crypto reserve assets. Many countries still do not hold such reserves, he said, and he generally recommends that they build them. He added that doing so is usually the better approach and is very important to a country's long-term development.
