**TechFlame News** — NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in an exclusive interview with Axios on Tuesday that U.S. companies should “absolutely” be allowed to use Chinese open-source AI models, directly challenging the Trump administration’s and some U.S. AI labs’ policies of containment.
Huang argued that the market panic over Kimi K3 mirrors the misunderstanding seen during the DeepSeek selloff in early 2025: cheaper open-source models will expand the AI audience and increase—not decrease—demand for chips, data centers, and computing power. “Free AI is good for hardware, good for chips, and good for data centers.” He also pushed back against the view that open-source models pose a security risk, stating that open-source is actually safer because external researchers can inspect models, expose vulnerabilities, and build defenses. He called on Anthropic to open its Claude Mythos model to “everyone.”
Huang rejected the narrative that “China will beat U.S. companies,” arguing that the AI race has no finish line and that the U.S. and China will coexist over the long term. Hours after the interview, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said the government is reviewing whether Chinese AI models have stolen intellectual property and considering sanctions. Huang responded by saying that knowledge distillation is fundamental to intelligence, and accountability should be based on behavior—not on the models themselves.
