TechFlam reports that, according to Forbes, in the 2026 U.S. congressional primaries, the Democratic-aligned PAC "Protect Progress," under the umbrella of Fairshake and backed by Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, has made significant inroads into multiple Black-majority primary districts. The PAC poured over $4.9 million into Maryland candidate Adrian Boafo’s campaign, helped defeat anti-crypto Congressman Al Green in Texas by spending more than $5 million to support Christian Menefee, and invested approximately $4 million in Georgia to boost Jasmine Clark’s victory.
None of the related campaign ads mentioned the cryptocurrency industry background. Journalist Joy Reid characterized this tactic as "Blackwashing"—a practice of funneling crypto industry money into Black districts under the guise of progressive values while deliberately concealing the identities of the donors.
Analysts point out that the core logic of this network is not race-based but rather focused on propping up supporters while suppressing critics, with the ultimate goal of influencing the legislative trajectory of the pending CLARITY Act on digital asset market clarity.
