According to TechFlame, Succinct Labs, backed by Paradigm, has launched an iPhone camera app called ZCAM that uses cryptographic technology to generate a "digital fingerprint" for photos and videos, combating the risk of forgery posed by AI-generated content (AIGC).

ZCAM signs images at the moment they are captured, creating an immutable record and binding the content to the device it was taken on. This allows users to independently verify whether a piece of footage comes from a real device, has been tampered with, or was generated by AI.

Unlike approaches that rely on AI detection, Succinct has chosen to start at the device hardware level, generating a unique cryptographic signature for each shot. The company says existing AI detection tools are prone to failure, while this method enhances the reliability of authenticity verification.

Similar projects include World, which reduces risk by distinguishing between real human identities and AI-generated ones.
