According to The Guardian, on March 25 local time, the UK government released a review report on foreign interference in British politics, led by former Permanent Secretary of the Department for Exiting the European Union, Philip Rycroft. The report is expected to recommend banning political parties from accepting cryptocurrency donations.
The release of the report is closely linked to the Reform UK party—the only party in the UK that actively encourages cryptocurrency donations. Its former Welsh leader, Nathan Gill, was previously sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison for accepting bribes to spread pro-Russian propaganda. The Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy of Parliament had previously called for a ban on political parties accepting cryptocurrency donations, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to adopt the recommendations and advance legislation.
