TechFlame News - According to The Block, Ethereum researchers have demonstrated a proof-of-concept for "native Rollups" based on the execution client Ethrex. By introducing the EXECUTE precompilation to implement EIP-8079, Layer 2 block state changes are replayed and verified directly on Ethereum’s base layer. This approach does not rely on zero-knowledge proofs or fraud proofs; instead, Ethereum itself executes and confirms the validity of Rollup transactions. Related contracts are used to track Rollup states, enable cross-layer message bridging, and verify withdrawals based on Merkle-Patricia proofs. Developers state that native Rollups could simplify the long-term maintenance of Layer 2 solutions, allowing them to directly inherit Ethereum’s security and upgrade properties. The concept is currently still in the exploration and proof-of-concept stage.
