According to Caixin, Hong Kong Customs recently announced the detection of two suspected precious metal smuggling cases at Hong Kong International Airport, seizing approximately 168 kilograms of suspected gold flakes and about 285 kilograms of suspected silver flakes, with an estimated total market value of around HK$230 million. In terms of the market value of the smuggled items, this is the largest precious metal smuggling case ever recorded by Customs. Under Hong Kong's Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offense. Anyone found guilty of importing or exporting undeclared cargo may face a maximum fine of HK$2 million and up to seven years of imprisonment.
