TechFlame News: Katherine Wu, COO of Ethereum Name Service (ENS), posted on platform X that ENS v2 will be deployed exclusively on the Ethereum L1 network, and the originally planned Namechain L2 development will be discontinued. This adjustment only involves the choice of deployment layer and does not affect the functionality, mission, or product roadmap of ENS v2. As an upgrade to the existing ENS, ENS v2 will provide an independent registry for each .eth domain, enabling stronger customization capabilities. Meanwhile, the team is building two new applications, which have already been launched on the testnet this week. ENS emphasizes that even when deployed on L1, ENS v2 will operate exactly as originally designed, ensuring that the user experience and core protocol objectives remain unchanged. It is reported that this decision is related to broader discussions about the role of L2 in the Ethereum ecosystem. ENS will continue to support as many chains as possible, including allowing users to register .eth domains on any EVM chain in the future, while maintaining address support for major chains such as Solana and Bitcoin.
